Songs that will stand the test of time.

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Here are links to a few songs that I can’t seem to stop listening too. These are some of my favorite song writers and performers.

Townes Van Zandt Playing the first song he ever wrote, “Waiting Around to Die.”

Rolling Stones playing, “Torn and Frayed.” You can hear Gram Parson’s influence on the Stones music. He was living with Keith at the time Exile From Main St. was recorded.

Thievery Corporation’s song “Heaven’s Gonna Burn Your Eyes.”

Keep’em coming

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I had a blast playing at the Black Diamond Grill last night. I’d like like to thank the folks at the BDG in Cumming and look forward to playing there again. Spencer did a great job running sound. Andy was able to be the front man of the band, without also having to be the band sound engineer. Patrick amazingly learned piano parts to the songs in less than a week (on top of pedal steel, guitar, and vocals). But there is always more learning to do…If you want to hear great original music come out to Durty Kelly’s this Friday we will be backing up Dave Desmelik. On that note (no pun intended) I am going to pick up my mandolin. See ya then.

If you have an idea, chances are someone else had it first.

Other peoples’ artistic expression is where I find most of the meaningful ideas I identify with. I have decided I am going to use a category of my blog to showcase other peoples’ works that are meaningful to me.
I am not going to say why I think the works are influential, but leave that up to your own interpretations. Some works will live on forever while others will never be heard. “The choice is yours to take, the choice is yours to make.” Townes Van Zandt
